Fighting Words is once again hosting workshops as part of the Bealtaine Festival, the month-long nationwide festival that celebrates creativity as we age.
This year, we have partnered with the Intergenerational Learning Programme at Dublin City University to bring together older people and children to create new stories.
Fourth class girls from Our Lady of Victories Girls National School participated in two workshops, the first at DCU on April 28th and the second at Fighting Words on May 5th. Third class boys from Virgin Mary Boys National School had their first workshop at DCU on May 12th and the second at Fighting Words on May 19th.
At the first workshop, the kids and the older people met each other and work on timed writing exercises with workshop facilitators Cathy Walsh from DCU and Adrienne Quinn from Fighting Words. Everyone wrote about favourite foods and magical keys! At the second workshop, the group came together again to write an original story with Fighting Words manager Sara Bennett. With a child playing a grandparent and an older person playing a child in a role-playing exercise to kick off the session, everyone came together to create a story about a very unusual birthday party and a birthday party with a big surprise!
