Transition Year Work Experience

Fighting Words accepts 4th year (Transition Year) students for one-week work experience placements in our Dublin centre and our Glencree, Co. Wicklow centre from September to May.

Placements are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to two students per school. As placements with us are very popular, students are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible and to indicate a preference for either Dublin or Glencree.

Please note that the Dublin Transition Year placement diary for 2016-2017 is now full. Bookings for 2017-2018 are being accepted as of April 3rd, 2017.

During work experience week placements, students assist with our primary school workshops from 9.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Thursday in Dublin and Tuesday to Thursday in Glencree.

A different class visits us each morning, from primary schools all over the Dublin area.  Students spend the first half of the morning writing a story as a group and the second half of the morning writing individual endings to that story.

Work experience students are part of the team of volunteer writing tutors who deliver the workshop each day, supervised by Fighting Words staff.

If you are interested in working with children and/or the creative arts, a placement with us is a great learning opportunity and a lot of fun! For more information or to inquire about availability and apply for a place, students should email Sara Bennett. Please note that while we are happy to answer queries from parents, we will only confirm places directly with students.
