On Friday, 23 July 2021, thanks to the great people at Creative Ireland, An Taoiseach paid a visit to our friends and partners at Graffiti Theatre Company - the home of Fighting Words in Cork - to see a Fighting Words workshop in action.
The former teacher turned student for the afternoon, the Taoiseach sat in on a creative writing workshop with members of Graffiti's Activate Juniors group, facilitated by the workshop super-team of Kel, Fiona and Marie illustrating via Zoom, developing characters and creating their own stories.
The Taoiseach was then shown around Graffiti by Ben, a member of Activate and new official Graffiti tour guide, where they also dropped in on rehearsals for the Activate Seniors' upcoming filming of their adaptation of Cethan Leahy's Tuesdays Are Just As Bad. The Taoiseach got to speak to various young people and members of the Graffiti family about their work and the important role that the arts plays in the lives of children and young people.
Thanks a million also to actor and facilitator Shane Casey and writer Sheila O'Flanagan for joining us and sharing their experiences of Graffiti and Fighting Words with the Taoiseach.
