Spots the Cheetah and Mr Fly

Once upon a time, there was a cheetah called Spots. Spots was the fastest cheetah in the world. He wished he could sleep all day because he was tired from running.

Spots had a best friend called Mr Fly the flying donkey. Once Mr Fly took Spots for a ride in the sky. 

Spots put a piece of a cloud in his bag. They landed in a forest and Spots put the cloud on a log.

Jimbo Saves the Day

Squishy the marshmallow monster was sitting on a fudge log.  She was lost in the middle of the candy forest when suddenly she spotted a long chocolate river. 

The river reminded her of happier days and memories of swimming on Chocolannagh Lake near her home. 

Super Life of Superpowers

Once upon a time there was a gingerbread man called Gingy. He loved to go on walks and meet his friends. His best friend was Bob the marshmallow.

“Hi Bob, how are you doing?” said Gingy.

“I’m doing fine, thanks,” replied Bob.

Ice Cream Madrid

Mr Chocolate the ice cream cone went to the football pitch at his school to play football. The other ice cream cones bullied him again. 

Mr Chocolate’s friend Mr Strawberry helped him. 

“Leave him alone!” said Mr Strawberry. “Would you like it if he was bullying you?”

Phil Vs Squirrel

Once upon a time, there was a guy called Phil the Monk. He had a friend called Jim the Talking Cow. 

Once, when he was younger, Phil saw a squirrel coming up the toilet. 

Now he was afraid of squirrels.

The Rise of the Pope King

Otto the Octopus is just an octopus who wants to become the Pope King of the Sea with the help of his sidekick, Otto Jr the squid.

To be a pope king means to live in Atlantis, to have the biggest mansion and to eat first of everything that the other fish catch.

The current Pope King is the merman called Merman.

Pop Star in New York

Patsy was at home practising. She was looking up music videos and lyrics. She was warming up her vocal chords by singing scales. 

She was always worried about getting a throat infection so she looked after her throat by drinking Lemsip. 

Patsy’s best friend was an actor called Lesley who lived in LA.

Jack and Sluggie’s Adventures

Once upon a time, in a town that no one ever knew lived a boy named Jack who was 13. His best friend was Sluggie the Slug Monster.

Jack said to Sluggie, “I wished we had a jetpack so that you could fly.” 

Sluggie shouted, “YEEESSSSSSS!”

Barb: The Untold Story

Barb the Fisher was walking to Alaska. He was on his way to the Fishing Olympics in hopes of winning the Electric Fishing Rod, the best fishing rod in the world. 

On his way there, Barb bumped into Box Boy. Box Boy fell into the water and Barb had to fish him out. 

There were lots of rocks in the water, so Barb had to be careful when fishing him out. 

A Girl, A Book and a Chicken

As the sun rose, Alison filled a red bucket with grain and skipped into the yard. She threw a handful of grain to the chickens. 

 As the chickens looked up, she noticed a new one with fluffy feathers and black specks covering its neck.

She chased the unusual- looking chicken out of the yard.

The Dangerous Disaster

Once there was a Yorkshire Terrier named Scruffy. 

His best friend was Joe who was secretly a dog-catcher, but Scruffy didn’t know that. 

One day, they were going outside and Spiky the Magic Tiger was waiting for them.

A long time ago in the west of Ireland, there lived a girl called Izzy. 

When she was young, Izzy was bitten by a snake. Since then, she had been afraid of snakes but this had also given her superpowers – to move objects with the power of her mind. Izzy was also afraid to lose her powers. 

Ben’s Great Adventure

Once there was a beagle named Ben the Beagle. He was the littlest in his family. Nobody would listen to him. 

Ben was having a bad time because a bully cockapoo was bullying him at school. He wanted to run away but he couldn’t because the bully cockapoo kept following him.

But then he found his best friend, Bob the Beagle.

One morning Bob Brady was working in the police station sorting out his files. He got a phone call. It was a mysterious voice.

“You have 24 hours to solve this mystery and figure out who is calling or else...”

George the Pen

Once upon a time, there was a pen named George. 

He lived in a desk at a school with his best friend, Penny the Pencil, and a really mean stapler. 

One day, the stapler was guarding the desk so George couldn’t escape. 

Candy Catastrophe

Once upon a time there was a unicorn girl called Candyfloss. She lived in Rainbowland with her best friend, Rainbow the Candyfloss Cloud. 

Candyfloss’ biggest fear was that vegetables would rule the world and they would destroy Candy Planet. 

Blah’s Magical Food Adventure

Blah, King of the Unitatos, went on a mission to find the marshmallow castle guarded by marshmallow dinosaurs. 

Blah was on his marshmallow dragon that could spit out hot caramel. While riding his dragon, he stopped to eat a s’more at a petrol station. 

When he came out of the petrol station, his dragon was gone, but he met his friend PJ the Pea.

The Lava Jewel

Once upon a time in Japan there lived a ninja called Ellie. 

She trained for five years as a ninja and learned how to turn invisible. 

The next day she found a dog who was also trained as a ninja. His name was Jack.

It was a bright, sunny day in Florida. I was practicing gymnastics in the gymnasium. 

As I finished my one hundredth push-up, I heard something crack. 

My coach had been counting my push-ups and heard the crack as well. 

Bobbalina and the Land of the Unidragons

Long, long ago in Unicorn Land there lived a six year old dinosaur called Bobbalina. Bobbalina hated unidragons. When she was a baby, a unidragon had bitten her. 

One day she was at the beach playing with her best friend, Jimineena the donkey.

They were swimming in the sea when, suddenly, Bobbalina was washed away by a wave to a strange island.

Rosy and The Dinosaur

Long long ago in a land far far away, there was a dinosaur called Spiny and he was all alone. 

He really wanted to go to the human world to make loads of friends.

The next day he found a puppy and he was about to eat her but the puppy said, “Don’t eat me!”

Flour or Fingers?

In a Rumpelsackel village, everyone was afraid of the Magic Finger King and his army of fingers and toes. 

The king wanted to take the Rumpelsackels out of their homes and use them to make pancakes every day for him and his army. 

One day, Rumpelia and her friend, Garfield the potato with hands, saw the army of fingers and toes coming towards the village. 

A Dog With a Secret

Billy the stray dog is crawling along the pavement on a cold, rainy day. 

The streets are very busy and there is lots of cars and noise and lots of people are walking into him. 

Billy has lovely black and brown fur but it is very muddy and dried up.

Snookie's Magical Adventure

Snookie the Chihuahua is sitting on Santa’s large red bag, biting his black boot laces in the sleigh at The North Pole.  

It’s just 27 days until Christmas Eve, and the reindeer are all training hard for the big day in hopes they will be picked for the final squad.

Rudolph was lifting weights, and suddenly a 100 kg weight dropped on his toe. 

Ruining Christmas

Once there was an evil elf named Stonky who lived in a place where no one could find him. 

Stonky’s best friend was Billy Bob Jones, an evil pencil who could erase anything. 

They lived in a secret base and they were plotting an evil plan: to capture Santa and take over Christmas.

The Juicy Journey

Once upon a time, there was a magic book that mixed together a dog and a hot dog and created Meaty, The Sausage Dog! 

In a house there was a man. A portal opened up in the man’s bathroom. 

The man was sitting on the toilet and he went through the portal and it turned him into Toilet Man: half toilet, half man.

Lily The Shoe

Once upon a time there was a shoe called Lily and she lived in Shoeville. 

It was Lily’s birthday and she got a doll. She opened the gift and dropped it.

She ran upstairs to her room, locked the windows and her door and went under the blankets. 


Oceana and the Missing Pearl Necklace

Deep down, under the sea, there lived a mermaid called Oceana who wanted a pearl necklace more than anything. 

The pearl necklace gave special powers to whoever wore it. At night, it gave you the ability to see through the dark sea. 

It had been her mother’s, but it got stolen by Marissa the mean mermaid. Then Marissa lost it, so now they were both looking for it. 

The Adventures of Larry Plotter

Dublin Book Festival, 14 November 2015 

Larry Plotter was sitting inside on a cold rainy day. He was playing with his imaginary friend Bob the Cow. 

They were playing Rodeo Unicorn. “Larry, you fell off the unicorn twice already,” said Bob. “Well I was very hot and tired. Plus I blame gravity.” 

Bob went home and Larry was so bored that he was about to eat his socks.

Chubby and Fur’s Adventure

Once upon a time, there was a pink fluffy unicorn named Chubby. He had a best friend called Fur, the half-dog/half-bear. 

They both lived in Candyland, which was made entirely of candy. 

It was Fur’s birthday on Friday and Chubby wanted to organise a party for him.

Sir Countalot and His Friends

One day, Sir Countalot was on the top of the mountain library, looking for books to learn how to do magic. 

“Ahhhhh, this is a bad day!” he roared. “I don’t want to do this because I am afraid of heights, but I must if I want to learn magic!”

Sir Countalot found a book on where to find an ancient fire staff that would give him magic.

“Candy Chaos”

There was once a dog named Billy Bob Joe and his best friend was Marshmallow Master. 

He was stuck living in a kennel because he ate his candy house. 

Marshmallow Master wanted to help Billy Bob Joe make a new candy house.

Sparky Sparky Boom Boom had this idea because there was a new player on his football team from China. 

The new player was a book, called Mr Smarty Pants.

Once upon a time, Barry was in the middle of a recital and he started to think about Nando’s.

“I wish I had Nando’s. Why isn’t there Nando’s in America?” he thought.
