Answering a Dream

Once upon a time there was a dog named Jam. Now Jam was no ordinary dog.

He did the voice-overs for answering machines. It was a rainy Friday in Ethiopia and Jam was sleeping in because he’d been up all night recording an answering machine message for Simon Cowell.

All of a sudden, there was a loud booming knock on the door. Jam jumped out of bed and knocked over the Steven Gerrard lamp on his bedside table. He put on his pink, fluffy dressing gown with sparkly golden stars on it and his big sun glasses, went downstairs, and opened the door.

As usual, it was his friend Motezuma the cat.

“Story?” he asked.

“Euuuuuuuugh...” said Jam.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you not gonna let me in? I’m soaked.”

“What do you want? You woke me. I’m really tired.”

“It’s one in the afternoon you lummox!” said Montezuma. “What are you doing still in bed?” 
“I was up all night recording an answering machine for Simon Cowell.”
 
Jam invited Montezuma in and they went to the kitchen for a cup of coffee. Jam was being very quiet and looked a bit down, so Montezuma asked him, “If you could do anything in the world what would it be?”
“I’d love to be able to bark a ringtone,” said Jam, suddenly looking excited.

“Let’s do it man.  I’ll help you.”

“But... what’s in it for you?”

“10%. And a warm cushion,” said Montezuma, smiling cheekily. “I know of a magical recording studio in Lithuania. We could go there!”

“I’ve heard of it too,” Jam sighed. “But my nemesis Cluckers the Chicken is the owner. He’d never let me use it.”...
